White Privilege

  • They are not discriminated against because they are known for not being immigrants.
  • Getting higher positioned jobs.
  • When a young teenage girl gets pregnant and is not judged because it is seen as a challenge, as opposed to blacks and Hispanics who get judged as irresponsible.
  • White people aren’t subject to racial profiling.
  • Not randomly stopped by police because of color.
  • Being part of a majority of successful people (lawyers,doctors,police officers)
  • All of TV shows and movies have to have a white person.
  • Do not make others feel in danger around their presence.
  • Get treated with respect.
  • Opportunity to get into more colleges.
  • Are wealthy or have greater chance to become wealthy.
  • Knowledge and intelligence does not get questioned.
  • Can go shopping alone most of the time, and will not be followed or harassed.
  • If a white person decides to wear provocative or old looking clothes they are not judged.
  • More opportunities in America.
  • When they say something their opinion is heard and usually agreed with.
  • Can go to any country because they are American citizens.

    I think the point that white people get treated with respect is really interesting, but also is saddening to me. I feel that as human beings we should treat everyone with respect no matter what race, gender, or class they are. It says something about our society, that the way groups of people treat other groups or judge others based on a criteria like race, gender, and class.

    I agree with most of these points, although some may be more closely related to class as well, with the assumption that a white person is automatically considered wealthy or middle-class in our society.

    i found a great deal of similarities between the white privileges and the wealth class privileges. Since we as a class came up with these classifications to match each topic, i feel that we mirror society’s view on what the “norm” is perceived to be.
