On “Lil Kim Vs. Nicki”

4 Dec

I am a blogger. Most of the blog sites I run or work for are media and music related. This has been one of the major topics of discussion for months. Lil Kim vs. Nicki Minaj. I don’t even belief that those names should even be in the same sentence. I feel as if they are two different rappers in two different categories. They have done and have portrayed two different images throughout their careers.

Lil Kim has been known for overly explicit content, overly sexual content, over the top outfits that exposed certain assets. Lil Kim was discovered because of  her sexual relationship with rapper Notorious B.I.G. Lil Kim aside from all the sexual things. Made a name for herself in the rap community. She also starred in a movie, starred in “Dancing With The Stars” and tried to rebrand herself.

Nicki Minaj started as an underground rapper. She too was explicit, and became known for it. But once Lil Wayne discovered Nicki, she became a commercialized rapper and is now in a different field. Nicki Minaj has become famous in more ways than one. Her over the top outfits known for accentuating her assets, but never revealing them. She has been known for inspiring young girls and become “young barbies” themselves. Nicki Minaj has become sponsored by things such as MAC makeup, has worked with Breast Cancer associations because of her use of the color pink in everything she does.

Both of these women are legendary in there own way. Women need to stop being so catty. Black women at that and learn to work together and kill stereotype. If another woman is doing good at the same thing you do … if you can’t beat her, join her.

I absolutely agree with you. I have a lot of both of their songs on my iPod and love them both. I think their styles are very different, but very creative. Lil Kim’s lyrics are much more explicit and violent. Instead of being catty, they should empower each other because they are both very successful and well known in the music industry.

The Media always tries to create rivalries between similar females in entertainment, be it music, movies, etc… Even if there isn’t one. They did it with Christina Aguilera & Britney Spears, Tyra Banks & Naomi Campbell, Lil Kim & Foxy Brown & so on. It’s the nature of the business unfortunately. There is only room for one, especially if it’s a female of color. Or in this case a younger version, like with Lil Kim & Niki. I honestly don’t see the big deal, she was then & now there’s someone new. Everyone deserves a chance to make it & really No one is that original anymore. Whatever anyone has done, someone has always done before them.

I do not agree with your statement, although it may seem as if they are empowering women I feel like they are just using their sexuality to try and sell records and make money. That and coupled with the fact that their and almost every other artist, has no substance in their music. They are talking about nothing substantial and it’s all about sex, drugs, money, killing, etc.

lil kim is just lookin for a reason to start something. i havent heard this girls name in so long now that nicki is doing hetr thing in the music world she wants to come out her face talking about some sort of riff raff. dont get me wrong lil kim is real hip hop and she made her mark in history, but every body needs to let the new people coming into the industry in order to keep music alive.
